Four more human cases of the West Nile virus have been reported in the County.

The County Department of Health and Human Services says three of the victims were hospitalized, but have since been discharged. They include a 35-year-old Oceanside woman, 45-year-old La Mesa man, 45-year-old North Park man and 63-year-old Bay Park man.

There have been a record 22 cases so far in the County this year.

4:33 pm - September 30, 2008Injured Passenger Walks Into Restaurant

UPDATE* THE CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL SAYS ONE MAN WAS SHOT IN WHAT IS BELIEVED TO BE A ROAD RAGE INCIDENT. THE VICTIM WAS RIDING IN A TOYOTA TACOMA WHEN A VEHICLE SIMILAR TO A CHRYSLER 300 DROVE UP ON THE PASSENGERS SIDE AND FIRED ONE SHOT. 

THE VICTIM WAS TAKEN TO UCSD MEDICAL CENTER FOR TREATMENT. SAN DIEGO POLICE SAY ONE SUSPECT IS IN CUSTODY. 

 

 

A man walked into a Jack In The Box in the 3700 block of Camino Del Rio West and says he believed he was shot in the face on the freeway, according to San Diego Police.

Police say the man is bleeding from the forehead.

10:01 am - September 30, 2008Heavy Smoke Seen In East San Diego

San Diego Firefighters have extinguished a car fire in East San Diego.  The car rolled off a hill in the 3700 block of Ash Street at about 9:30 this morning.  The car caught on fire when it rolled down the hill.  A huge column of smoke could be seen all over East San Diego.  The driver of the car suffered minor injuries.  Firefighters also had to put out a small brush fire that was started by the car fire.

1:35 pm - September 29, 2008Accident Slows Traffic In Escondido

UPDATE* — A SIG ALERT IS STILL IN EFFECT FOR THE AREA WHILE CALTRANS CREWS CONTINUE CLEAN-UP IN THE NUMBER ONE LANE.

We have a traffic alert for you this afternoon if you’re traveling on Interstate 15.
An accident involving a big rig and nine other vehicles is blocking lanes on the southbound side of Interstate 15 just north of Via Rancho Parkway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A sig alert has been issued for the next hour while crews work on getting the number one and two lanes cleared.
The CHP says the big rig is leaking fuel near the center divider.

There are reports of rain and lightning in parts of the County this morning.
We received reports of lightning strikes in Rancho Bernardo around 6:30 this morning.
There have also been reports of rain off the 805 in Clairemont and off the 78 in San Marcos.

3:03 pm - September 28, 20082 Killed In Otay Mesa Crash

*UPDATE* TWO WOMEN KILLED IN THE CRASH HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED AS LETICIA LAMP-RANDOLF, 22, OF SAN DIEGO AND CRISTIE JENNINGS, 35, OF EL CAJON. THE WOMEN WERE IN A TOYOTA CAMRY THAT COLLIDED WITH A VAN CARRYING A MAN, WOMAN AND 11-YEAR OLD GIRL. THEY WERE ALL TRANSPORTED TO LOCAL HOSPITALS. TWO CHILDREN RIDING IN THE CAMRY, AGES 3 AND 6, WERE TAKEN TO CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL. NO WORD ON ANY OF THE PATIENTS’ CONDITIONS THIS MORNING.

 

 

The CHP along with San Diego police and fire crews are at the scene of a major vehicle accident in Otay Mesa. A dispatcher for the SDFD says that two people are confirmed to have died. Copter 2 is at the scene and Copter 1 is on the way. The accident was first reported at 2:29 p.m. on Otay Mesa Rd near La Media Rd.

2:00 pm - September 28, 2008Have you signed up for Reverse 9-1-1? …

Officials with the San Diego County Office of Emergency Services are urging residents to sign up their mobile phones for the reverse 9-1-1 calling system. They tell 10News that of the more than three million people in the county only about 100,000 have registered their cell phones. Residents in Ramona and Julian are especially urged because. They system is used to provide information during emergencies like wildfires.

12:05 pm - September 28, 2008Plane Crashes Near Palomar Airport

UPDATE - NTSB crews are on their way from Los Angeles to investigate the crash. We’ll have a live report on 10News at 6. 

UPDATE - One person is confirmed to have been killed in the crash.  Our crew at the scene reports the wreckage is on a hillside away from structures.  The National Weather Service issued a Dense Fog Advisory for the region this morning, it is unknown whether that played any role in the crash.

 

Emergency crews are at the scene of a plane crash near McClellan Palomar Airport right now. According to a dispatcher for the Rancho Fire dispatching agency, the plane crashed near the intersection of Gateway Road and El Fuerte Street in Carlsbad. The crash was reported at about 7:20 this morning. Right now it’s unknown how many people were onboard and the extent of their injuries.

Congressional leaders and the Bush administration reached a tentative deal early Sunday on a bailout of the financial markets. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced the $700 billion accord just after midnight but said it still has to be put on paper.

2:39 pm - September 27, 2008Memorial Held For Rosa Lisowski

Friends and family of Rosa Lisowski are holding a memorial for her today. They say it is an opportunity to bring closure to the case. Rosa hasn’t been seen since late March.  Her husband, Henry, is in jail awaiting trial on a first degree murder charge. Earlier this month he pleaded not guilty to the charge.  Her body hasn’t been found.  Here’s the full story.
