8:55 pm - November 30, 2008Woman Dies After Fall At Sunset Cliffs

Update: The woman has been identified as 41-year-old Kristan Stephanie Wagner.

 

A woman was killed in a fall on the rocks at Sunset Cliffs today, authorities said.

  

 

The woman apparently slipped around 1:40 p.m. at the foot of Carmelo Street, just north

of Sunset Cliffs Park, San Diego lifeguard Lt. Andy Lerum said.

 

The circumstances that led to the woman’s fall were not immediately known, he said.

 

Firefighters and lifeguards organized a rescue response that included a helicopter, but the

victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

6:35 pm - November 29, 2008Police Find And Blow Up Pipe Bomb In The East Village

UPDATE: THE SUSPICIOUS DEVICE IS NOW BEING CALLED A HOAX, A SERGEANT WITH THE SAN DIEGO POLICE DEPARTMENT SAID.

San Diego police were called to an apartment building under construction this morning following reports of a pipe bomb there.
Police found the bomb around 8:35 a.m. at the building on 1475 Imperial Avenue in the East Village.
The bomb squad detonated the bomb about 90 minutes later.
No one was hurt.

1:48 pm - November 29, 2008Two People Die In Balboa Park Crash

UPDATE: 10NEWS HAS LEARNED THE IDENTITY OF THE PEOPLE KILLED IN THE CRASH. THEY ARE 22 YEAR OLD CLAUDIA CUEVA AND 15 YEAR OLD PRYSMA MEJIA.

Two people are dead following a horrific crash in Balboa Park.
It happened just after midnight on Florida Drive as it transitions to 26th Street.
Police say the driver, a 22 year old woman, was speeding with 7 minors in her car when she lost control.
She and a 15 year old girl were killed when the car ran over the median and overturned.
One other teenager is in critical condition.
Police say the woman was driving at twice the speed limit.
Out of the eight people in the 2001 Chrysler Sebring sedan, she was the only one wearing a seatbelt.
The youngest passengers was a 3-year-old child who was sitting on someone’s lap and was not in a car seat.

3:27 pm - November 28, 2008Water Main Break In Little Italy

A stretch of Columbia Street in Little Italy will remain closed until late this evening due to a water main break.
The break was reported around 2:15 this afternoon on Columbia Street near Fir Street.
A spokesperson for the city water department says there is a report of minor flooding at a nearby business.
A number of customers are also without water. Emergency crews are on the scene and the water department expects to have water restored and the road reopened by 11 p.m.

1:09 pm - November 28, 2008Overnight Bar Fire Was Arson

An overnight fire that heavily damaged a Logan Heights bar was intentionally set, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
It started just after 2 a.m. at Malena’s in the 2900 block of National Avenue.
A spokesperson with the fire department says it took firefighters about 40 minutes to contain the fire.
Investigators determined the cause to be arson, but the details are still being investigated, according to the fire department.
Damage is estimated at $750,000.

10:02 am - November 28, 2008Sig Alert Near Santa Ysabel

UPDATE: THE SIG ALERT HAS BEEN CANCELLED AND THE ROAD RE-OPENED ABOUT 10:40 A.M. THE INJURED PERSON SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES, ACCORDING TO THE CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL.

 

A traffic alert for drivers near Santa Ysabel:
Both directions of State Route 78 are closed at this hour while crews work to free a person trapped in an overturned vehicle.
The accident happened just after 9:30 this morning on Julian Road at Riverwood Road, east of State Route 79, according to the California Highway Patrol.
No other vehicles were involved.

9:40 am - November 28, 2008Gas Below $2

Good news for drivers this holiday weekend — the average price of a gallon of self-serve unleaded gasoline has dropped below $2.
It’s the first time San Diego County drivers have seen prices below $2 since January 2005.
The average price decreased two cents to $1.98. That’s 24 cents less than this time last week.

9:34 am - November 28, 2008Driver Dies In Valley Center

A man who was found dead in his vehicle after it crashed off the roadway in North County may have a had a heart attack while driving, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash happened in the 30200 block of Lilac Road in Valley Center just after 8 a.m.
According to the CHP, the driver was found slumped over the vehicle.
No one else was injured in the crash.

10:48 am - November 27, 2008Sig Alert Issued For Chula Vista

Update:  The Sig Alert has been canceled.

The California Highway Patrol has issued a Sig Alert for northbound 805 in Chula Vista. A tour bus has collided with car on 805 just north of East H Street. The accident happened just before 10 this morning. The three left lanes are blocked.

7:41 am - November 27, 2008Sig Alert Issued for Mission Valley

Update:  The Sig Alert has been canceled.

The California Highway Patrol has issued a Sig Alert for the Mission Valley area.  Several people have been injured in a single car accident on the Fairmount Avenue on ramp to westbound Interstate 8.  The accident happened just after 7:20 this morning.  There have been more than 40 accidents on San Diego County freeways since midnight last night.
