4:01 pm - December 31, 2008Arrest Made In Sexual Assaults

UPDATE: Salazar entered 11 not guilty pleas during his arraignment today.  We’ll have more on Salazar’s day in court on 10News @ 5:00.

An arrest has been made in sexual assaults at Miramar Lake and in Poway.
Escondido Police arrested Carlos Ceron Salazar on Dec. 22 for being drunk in public.
San Diego Police say a DNA sample taken from Salazar matched one taken at the scene of the Miramar Lake sexual assault in 2006 and another attack from Poway in 2004.
Detectives say Salazar may have been involved in other attacks in the Lake Poway area.
He’s scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday morning.

1:41 pm - December 31, 2008Man Arrested In His Mother’s Death

UPDATE2:  Gunther entered a not guilty plea today.  His bail is set at $3 billion. 

UPDATE: The Sheriff’s Homicide Detail reports that they have arrested John Gunther for allegedly killing his mother, 57-year-old Dixie Lee Larson, of El Cajon.  Deputies located Gunther, 28, at about 8:30 this morning at an El Cajon motel.   Larson’s body was discovered earlier this morning by deputies.  She had not been seen for several days, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

We’ll have more on this case during tonight’s 6:00 p.m. newscast.

Detectives from the Sheriff’s Department are investigating the death of a woman in unincorporated El Cajon. Deputies discovered her body at her home on Spring OakS Road last night after they were asked to check her welfare, according to the Sheriff’s department. Her identity hasn’t been released.

The Chargers announced today that they will be wearing their powder blue uniforms for Saturday’s playoff game against the Colts. The jerseys were in New York where the NFL was going auction them off for charities. After the game they jerseys will be auctioned off.

7:16 am - December 31, 2008Sig Alert In Mission Valley

UPDATE: THE SIG ALERT HAS BEEN CANCELLED.

A Sig Alert is in effect for westbound Interstate 8 just south of northbound Interstate 15.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a trailer came off a truck and rolled over blocking lanes just before 7 a.m.
The trailer has moved to the center divide and is now only partially blocking the left lane, the CHP says.

The fog has rolled in around Lindbergh Field and there are flight delays.
Several Southwest flights are delayed or cancelled and a handful on other airlines as well.
The Airport Authority says visibility is down to a quarter of a mile and planes are landing from west to east.
Passengers are advised to contact their individual airlines for the most up to date information.

3:41 pm - December 30, 2008Coronado Sewage Spill

A sewage spill has prompted a pollution warning in Glorietta Bay this afternoon.
The Department of Environmental Health says the 3000-gallon spill was reported about 6:30 this morning and ran for more than two hours before crews were able to stop it.
Signs warning of the contaminated water will be in place until the water is deemed safe again.

1:58 pm - December 30, 2008Gunmen Rob Recycling Center

Gunmen robbed an Egger Highlands recycling center this morning.
The two suspects entered American Recycling in the 1700 block of Palm Avenue around 9 a.m. and demanded cash, according to San Diego Police.
Police say the suspects fled in a green Honda.

1:27 pm - December 30, 2008One Person Killed In Bonsall

UPDATE: THE VICTIM HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS 42-YEAR-OLD STORMI LOU ARREOLA OF FALLBROOK.

UPDATE: FIVE PEOPLE WERE TRANSPORTED TO LOCAL HOSPITALS WITH WHAT WERE BELIEVED TO BE LIFE THREATENING INJURIES, ACCORDING TO THE NORTH COUNTY FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT.

TWO PEOPLE WERE TAKEN BY AIR AMBULANCE AND THREE PEOPLE WERE TAKEN BY GROUND AMBULANCE. THE VICTIMS RANGED IN AGE FROM 13 TO 68.

One person was killed in an accident in Bonsall this afternoon.
It happened about 12:15 on South Mission Road and Paseo Del Lago, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP says several other people were also injured in the head-on collision involving a black Mazda and a blue Honda.

10:11 am - December 29, 2008Wrong Way Chase In South Bay

A man is in custody today after leading police on a wrong-way chase in the South Bay.
The chase began around 3:30 a.m. when officers spotted the driver going the wrong-way on Interstate 5 near H Street in Chula Vista, according to Chula Vista Police.
Police say the driver reached speeds of up to 100 miles per hour and also went on Highway 54 and Interstate 805 before stopping.
The man was taken into custody and is being held on suspicion of drunken driving, according to police.

UPDATE: THE FIRE HAS BEEN CONFINED TO ONE ROOM IN THE BACK OF THE HOME. NO ONE WAS INJURED.

Firefighters are on scene of a house fire in the 4700 block of Troy Lane in La Mesa at this hour.
The fire broke out just after 9 a.m.
More details as we get them.
