San Diego Police are on-scene investigating a multi-car accident in the 1300 block of Coronado Ave in Nestor. The accident happened shortly after 7 p.m. We will have more information as it becomes available.

3:40 pm - February 28, 2009Man Targets Cousin With Truck, Ends
Up In Hospital Then Jail

An East County man is jailed after allegedly trying to run over his cousin after an argument, according to Sheriff’s deputies. It happened just after 9:00 a.m. on the 10100 block of Princess Joanne Road in Santee. Our crew caught the aftermath on tape, it was quite a mess – you’ll want to see this video. The driver missed his cousin, drove through three fences and ended up down a steep embankment into an unoccupied home. A steel beam even pierced the truck’s windshield. The driver was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries and then to jail on assault with a deadly weapon charges, according to the Sheriff’s department.

12:57 pm - February 28, 2009Norovirus on Holland America Ship

UPDATE –   The Oosterdam returned today with more than 100 sick passengers.  We’ll here from both sick and healthy passengers  about how the sickeness “spread like a wave” over the ship on 10News at 6:00.

FRIDAY 10:35 A.M. – More than 80 people on a Holland America cruise ship expected to return to San Diego tomorrow morning have contracted the Norovirus, according to a Holland America Spokesperson.
The cruise line says 84 passengers and 4 crew members have come down with the virus characterized by stomach flu-like symptoms.
Infected passengers have been quarantined and the ship will be thoroughly sanitized when it re-enters the port.

11:34 am - February 28, 2009Reckless Driving Possible Cause
Of Fatal Crash

UPDATE – The Medical Examiner’s office reports that 63-year-old Michaleen Louise Wright, of Campo, was killed in the crash.

WEDNESDAY –  The CHP is investigating a fatal accident that happened earlier today on I-8 in East County. A 63-year-old Campo woman was killed after a car drifted into her lane and collided with her car, according to the CHP. The collision’s impact forced her to be ejected from the car. The CHP says there are reports the driver of the other car was driving in a reckless manner before the crash.  The crash happened at about 2:00 p.m. near Buckman Springs Road.

10:27 am - February 28, 2009Crash Leads To Stolen Car Arrest

UPDATE – Our crew on the scene said that the vehicle hit a utility box, not a pole.  The car was stolen.  Police arrested a woman who was in the car; however, they are still looking for the male suspect.  They vehicle suffered minor damage and no one was hurt. 

9:45 A.M. – San Diego police say they are looking for the man responsible for driving his vehicle into a utility pole in Sherman Heights. The crash happened minutes ago near the intersection of 24th and Market. Evidently the force of the collision forced the pole to come crashing down. The driver ran away from the crash scene, police say.

9:20 am - February 28, 2009One Hospitalized In Mobile Home Fire

One person is recovering from injuries suffered in mobile home fire earlier this morning, according to the Sheriff’s department and Heartland Fire dispatch. It happened at a mobile home park on the 600 block of Palm Avenue in Imperial Beach. The fire was reported at about 6:45 this morning. The fire is under investigation.

3:31 pm - February 27, 2009Cliff Rescue In Progress

UDPATE – The man was pulled up by lifeguards.  He walked away from the scene.  Lifeguards say he was flying a remote controlled glider before he ended up on the side of the cliff.

  • We’ll have the video on 10News at 5:00.

3:31 p.m. – There is a man stuck about three quarters of the way up the cliff.  He’s below the golf course.  Lifeguards are on scene and trying to assist him. 

3:18 P.M. – Sky10 is over a cliff rescue near the Torrey Pines Gliderport. It appears at least one person is stuck.  Check back for details.

11:58 am - February 27, 2009California Unemployment Now Over 10%

New data just released by the California Employment Development Department puts the state’s unemployment rate at 10.1% for January. In January 2008 unemployment was at 6.1%. The state lost 79,300 jobs last month. Nationwide the unemployment rate it 7.6%. Exactly how San Diego County stands compared to the state won’t be known until next week when data for specific counties is released.

11:09 am - February 27, 2009FBI Looking For Fallbrook Bank Robber

The FBI is asking for the public’s help in tracking down the man who robbed a Fallbrook bank yesterday evening. Today they released a photo of the robber:

The unidentified man used a note to get the teller to hand over an undisclosed amount of cash, according to the FBI. It happened at the Washington Mutual bank on the 1000 block of S. Mission Road at 5:55 p.m. He drove away in a silver two-door Honda. The FBI says the robber is a white man about 50 years old and weighs about 200 pounds.

9:25 am - February 27, 2009Arrest In Carlsbad Double Homicide

The son of a Carlsbad couple found dead in their home last month is now in police custody.
Dennis Gluck was arrested in Ensenada Thursday night and turned over to Carlsbad Police early this morning.
Carlsbad Police say Gluck is facing two counts of murder in connection with the deaths and is being held on $5 million bail.
10News Reporter is Jennifer Jensen is in Carlsbad and will have the latest on the case on 10News Midday.
