A messy situation at Gillespie Field this morning. According to El Cajon police, what started as a police chase involving a stolen vehicle, ended in a crash at the airport. Police say they tried to pull over a car on Madison and Magnolia, but the driver took off. He headed Northbound on Madison, and then Northbound on Johnson in excess of 100mph. They say the driver was going so fast he jumped over a 50-foot ravine, and crashed through the fence at Gillespie Field. The car flipped over next to a hanger on the Southside of the airport, clipping the wing of a plane. Part of the car crashed through the hanger, and damaged a 1950’s classic car which was inside. There are reports another plane inside the hanger and was also damaged. The driver of the stolen car was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital in Kearny Mesa. No word how serious his injuries are. He’s described as a 35 years old white man. The stolen car is a 2000 Volkswagen Pasat. 10news reporter Jennifer Jensen is at the scene.
